A Natural Solution for A Natural Setting !

This was how the owner of a mid-western golf course described a small lake that had
been a show-piece near the entrance of his course. Several varieties of Algae had
overgrown the lake due to excess food supply from fertilizers. What had been a peaceful
natural setting had become an eye-sore. Their customers had begun to complain and they
wanted it fixed. Phoenix Processes was asked to survey the lake and make recommendations.
There was no mechanical aeration in the lake, such as a fountain, and none could be placed
there temporarily. We had to work with what nature provided at the location.
The Approach!
Phoenix did on-site determinantions of water quality and sent photographs and samples
to Alken-Murray microbiologists. Clear-FloŽ product was air-shipped to begin immediate
treatment to keep things from getting worse while a 'prescription' was developed for this
particular location and suite of algae. A regimen of weekly treatments was developed
specific to this lake. Phoenix applied the products using a high pressure spray system.
(And successfully dodged golf balls at the same time!) It was late fall and the weather
was unpredictable and getting colder each week. A series of 6 treatments plus one special
'final dose' was applied. The final dose to the lake included the Alken Clear-FloŽ
special cold weather blend designed to keep working in the winter. This application was
made just before Thanksgiving (late November).
The Results
The week after New Year's (5 weeks after the final treatment) the lake was crystal
clear and fish could once again be seen swimming about. During this time there were
several days of <35ē F weather with some ice forming around the edges of the shallow (max depth 10 feet) lake. The eye-sore had been restored to its former clear and attractive status. The customers were happy to have the 'lake back' and stopped complaining.
